Review: Aranmanai-Fun Filled Horror Thriller - 'Aranmanai' Review Roundup: Fun-Filled Horror Film

Review:Aranmanai-Fun Filled Horror Thriller

Movie: Aranamanai

MovieMint.com Rating:3.25/5

Cast: Hansika, Lakshmi Rai, Sundar C, Vinay Rai

Direction: Sundar C

Production: Vision I Medias

Music: Bharathwaj

Director Sundar C, best known for churning out successful commercial entertainers, is now back with Aranmanai. For the first time in his career, Sundar C has tried his hands at horror genre, but of course, with ample dose of comedy. The movie boasts of a huge star cast including Andrea, Vinay, Hansika, Raai Laxmi, Santhanam, Kovai Sarala, Manobala and Sundar C himself in the lead roles. Has Sundar C succeeded in his different attempt as well? Read on.

Story:

“Aranmanai” involves a bungalow that is haunted. Why is it haunted and happens to a bunch of family members who want to sell the palace, which is their ancestral property, forms the crux of the story. In the first half, we are told that there is a ghost in the house. The second half is all about its revenge. The director has given more importance to comedy parts in the first half, the second half belongs to spine-chilling moments.

Good:

Andrea is good in her role and she packs a punch, especially in the second half. She also impresses in the close-up shot giving scary moments in the movie with her looks. . Hansika Motwani stuns all in all with her outstanding performance. They both share equal screen presence.Lakshmi Rai mesmerizes with her glamour quotient once again and been funny to enthrall audience. Manobala, Kovai Sarala and Santhanam are apt in their roles. Sundar C does hold on to revenge as the central crux but yes, it is the way he puts things on screen which do the trick.

Bad:

Predictable Flash back sequences and lags a bit in screenplay at several intervals. The movie run time is also little bit long which is not good for Horror Flicks. Santhanam should be given much important role to engage audience in their seats with lot’s of comedy scenes.Editing can be made better to run movie without loosing key phase.

Technicalities:

Background score is very good and Karthik Raja is appreciated for his efforts,Songs are misplaced for a while and overall music is safe to hear and enjoy. The technical department were up to mark and their efforts payed off by delivering such a good product to audience.

Verdict:Fun Filled Horror Thriller

Though Sundar.C story may not be unique but definitely a worth watch for this weekend,Good screenplay and amazing acting of 3 beautiful actress made you to go gaga over the movie.

Box-Office Stamina:good

Hansika-Andrea-Raai Laxmi's "Aranmanai" has fetched good reviews from the critics.

The film, deemed as a horror comedy entertainer, is directed by Sundar C. It boasts of an ensemble cast including the director, Vinay, Santhanam, Kovai Sarala and Manobala among others.

Plot: "Aranmanai" involves a bungalow that is haunted. Why is it haunted and what happens to a bunch of family members who want to sell the palace, which is their ancestral property, forms the crux of the story.

Critics have stated that the comedy quotient is good in "Aranmanai" and evokes laughter, while the film might not scare the audience much.

Andrea's performance has won accolades, while other actors including Hansika, Vinay, Raai Laxmi, Sundar C have done their parts well. Santhanam's one-liners, Kovai Sarala and Manobala manage to bring in comic relief.

Regarding the technical aspects, critics have stated the cinematography is average, while editing could have been better. None of the songs composed by Bharadwaj are impressive. Karthik Raja's background music is fine, while the VFX team has done a decent job.

Check below the review roundup of "Aranmanai"

"Sundar C is back with his typical commercial, fun-filled entertainer that has all elements that will keep you engaged all the way, making you overlook those "not-too-glaring" flaws. Like every horror movie, there are few disturbing visuals for the young-aged audience that the parents might want to keep a check on, according to Behindwoods Review Board.

"Aranmanai might not scare you much. Nor does it have something out of the box. But it successfully sets out doing what it intended to. The three girls in the movie might just be the icing on the cake. Go for this one if you liked the last flick in the genre - Yaamiruka Bayamey," said Siddarth Srinivas of Cinemalead.

"The saying, "old wine in a new bottle", might fit Aranmanai with Sundar C's narration and screenplay helping the movie out of its predictable script. The film has the commercial signature all over with humor taking the front seat, the scary moments just huffing and puffing behind. Overall the VFX gets its share of scare, and then fizzes out with some average CGI. Cinematography is just apt for a scary movie, some panning out well and some not," according to Indiaglitz.

"Director Sundar C has tried to combine two genres – comedy and horror, with little success. Although the comedy factor works to a certain extent, thanks to Santhanam's one-man show, the movie doesn't get scary or peak at any moment. The movie is pretty predictable throughout and one could easily guess the next scene. For a horror film, this factor is one of the major drawbacks," said Sai Shyam G of iflickz.

"The commercial elements comedy, horror and glamour has been mixed in the right proposition by the writer and director. What works is a riveting performance by Hansika, along with comedy track of Santhanam &Co and is packaged as a fun entertainer by Sundar C," according to Sify.

Verdict: Fun-filled Horror Film

ZING DIGITAL (A Dishtv Product) ZING DIGITAL START Now - Dish TV launches Zing brand for regional markets; to also launch Dish Box Office

ZING DIGITAL (A Dishtv Product) ZING DIGITAL START Now
Dish TV launches Zing brand for regional markets; to also launch Dish Box Office

KOLKATA: Direct-to-home TV services provider Dish TV has embarked on a content strategy that differentiates its services from competitors.

Dish TV today launched a brand called Zing for targeting regional markets where Phase III and Phase IV digitisation has opened up significant opportunity.

The DTH TV provider would also soon launch Dish Box Office, an expanded movie-on-demand service.

Starting with West Bengal, the DTH TV provider will start offering Zing in Odisha later this week and subsequently extend it to Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Zing is part of Dish TV’s strategy to search for newer ways of reaching out to specific viewers and engaging with them through relatable content. With Zing, a customer in West Bengal will be able to choose from a number of packs which will include all available Bangla channels.

The Zing packages are priced at Rs 175, Rs 249 and Rs 349. The company plans to spend Rs 7 crore on a 360 degree brand awareness and marketing campaign.

“With more than 10 to 12 million analogue television homes in West Bengal to be digitised in phase III and IV, we would like to grow our business here,” said Dish TV CEO R C Venkateish.

“Besides the content, all above-the-line (ATL) and below-the-line (BTL) advertising, packaging and other marketing activities will be available in Bangla,” said Dish TV India COO Salil Kapoor.

As part of Dish Box Office, Dish TV would offer half-a-dozen movies through the day instead of just one movie on demand now. “As the reach of this offering is comparable to any movie channel, we hope to reach at least 50 per cent of our active subscriber base,” Kapoor said.

Talking about phase 1 digitisation in Kolkata, Kapoor said DTH has a market share of around 30 per cent, of which Dish TV’s share of around 28 per cent. Dish TV has a subscriber base of around 11.8 million in India.

The state-owned Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation Limited (TACTV) will provide broadband and internet services at cheaper rate, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa told the Assembly on Monday.

Making a series of announcements to give impetus to information technology-driven public services, the Chief Minister said TACTV that had been offering cable TV services at a rate of Rs. 70 per month, would work with broadband licence holders.

Ms. Jayalalithaa also announced construction of a new building at a cost of Rs. 40 crore for the Tamil Nadu State Data Centre to widen its services to other government departments.

The Data Centre has been offering services to 15 government departments including commercial taxes department, Chennai Corporation and Metro Rail.

“At present the Centre does not have adequate infrastructure. A 5000 sq feet building with 40 racks will be constructed for it,” she said. The Chief Minister said a Near Line Disaster Recovery Centre would be set up at a cost of Rs five crore.

“Natural disasters continued to pose a challenge to the Data Centre. So there is a need to keep the data in a centre other than Disaster Recovery Centre in the city. The Near Line Disaster Recovery Centre will fulfill the purpose,” Ms. Jayalalithaa said.

The state government has already distributed 20 lakh laptops to students and it has now decided to offer cloud services and web-hosting services at a cheaper rate to further the entrepreneurship and creative skills of the youth. The project cost will be Rs 50 lakh.

Ms Jayalalithaa said the Tamil Virtual Academy would create an internet encyclopedia to facilitate interaction and sharing of knowledge on the greatness of the Tamil language and the achievements made in the language.
