Customer ID is provided by the set top box operator when you buy a new set top box. How to find your Customer ID, when you had forgot or lost it ? Know how :

Videocon d2h :

To know your Customer ID, SMS ID from your registered telephone number and SMS CID from non registered telephone number to 9212012299. Also, you can call 1800 1370 444 (Toll Free Number) to know your Customer ID, balance check and Recharge due date.

Tata Sky :

You can know the Customer ID right away on your television. Press the Home button on your Tata Sky Remote and Customer ID can be seen on the home page.

Airtel Digital TV :

Know the Customer ID of your Airtel Digital TV from Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) on your Television. To access the EPG, press the ‘Menu’ button on your remote. Choose ‘My Account’ from the main menu of EPG and this lets you to account status, where Customer ID is on view.

Dish TV :

Go to Dish Tv website and login using your Viewing Card number. You will be able to see the details of your account including the Customer ID.

Sun Direct :

Log in to your Sun Direct account using Smart Card number as Username and “password” as your password. Once you are logged in, you can change the password. You can find the Customer ID along with your account status.

Videocon d2h to Launch 4K UHD Services in 2015; Plans 2014 IPO

Direct to home service provider Videocon d2h is likely to go ahead with its proposed public float (IPO) plan this financial year, according to a top company official.

The company had received the permission from market regulator Sebi in March 2013 for its proposed Rs. 700-crore IPO but did not launch the same due to bad market conditions.

"We are engaged with our advisors and investment bankers. We have appointed Axis Capital among others to advise us on the same. We are planning the IPO this financial year itself," Videocon director Saurabh Dhoot told PTI in Mumbai on Thursday.

The satellite TV arm of the diversified Videocon group on Thursday formally announced the change of its name from Bharat Business Channel to Videocon d2h. Dhoot said the rechristening will not have any impact on the IPO.

The company also unveiled its 4K ultra high definition services which it will roll out over next three quarters, he said. The company expects an uptick in the sales of 4K or UHD panels in the festive season and it would be targeting its existing customer base.

"It would begin with important sports events which would be enabled by the 4K feed. So we are well prepared to launch that service for our customers. Then we would have movies and general entertainment," he said.

The company caters to 11 million customers and has been growing at 40 percent CAGR, Dhoot said. Company chief executive Anil Khera said it would be a premium service and the 4K Ultra HD box would cost Rs. 10,000.

Set-top box turns cyclone warning system

CHENNAI: Now meteorologists needn't worry about not being able to make crucial announcements during a storm when power supply is cut off. The new cyclone warning dissemination system (CWDS) is being upgraded. It will work on direct-to-home (DTH) based equipment and can function for at least three days without needing to be charged.

The upgraded CWDS is a set-top box, which is commonly found in houses, modified by attaching an audio system to it. "We will be able to make announcements and receive audio signals through it," said G Gopal, a met department official. The modified set-top box would also have a battery back-up that can work on 12 volts, he said. "It will have two such batteries that ensure that it functions for 72 hours without requiring power," said Gopal.

The system developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) ensures that the DTH receiver gets only satellite signals and warnings from the local met department office, and works on a new bandwidth called ku-band. "The older receivers used to work on F band and X band — one to transmit signals and the other to receive," said Gopal.

The meteorological department decided to update the CWDS, which was earlier working on custom-made receivers, with the DTH system which is a commercially available product. "Replacing of parts and servicing of a DTH receiver will be cheaper and easier," said Gopal. The older receivers and system had been made way back in 1984 by ISRO, said officials.

The warning systems are being upgraded across the country. The met department has installed warning dissemination systems at the Chennai collectorate, secretariat, Ripon Buildings, seat of the city corporation, and Ezhilagam. There are 59 such systems across the state. The installation of the upgraded system in Ripon Buildings is underway and is likely to be completed by Friday. The system is being installed in the building's Golden Jubilee Hall.

Met department officials say the system has been installed in crucial government offices where authorities have to make a decision on the necessary action to be taken during an emergency.

Malaysian jailed in biggest seizure of tiger parts

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia—Activists say a man arrested in Malaysia’s largest seizure of trafficked tiger parts was not given a long enough jail sentence.

Wildlife trade monitoring group TRAFFIC says a northern district court convicted Mohd Nor Shahrizam Nasir on Thursday of illegally possessing skulls and bones of 22 tigers, 8 tiger skins and 9 African elephant tusks at his home last February.

The court imposed sentences totalling 60 months on three charges, but Mohd Nor would serve 24 months as the sentences run concurrently.

Each charge carries a maximum five-year sentence and minimum $32,000. Mohd Nor wasn’t fined.

TRAFFIC’s Southeast Asia director William Schaedla on Friday called it “a demoralizing finale to what should have been a victory against wildlife crime.”

Kedah court officials couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
